Grant Adams
Fishing and Remedial Solutions
Grant’s career in the drilling industry started in 1979 with holiday work as Roustabout and Roughneck for Encore Drilling Company while studying Engineering Geology at Portsmouth Polytechnic and continued after graduating BSc(Hons) in 1982, working up to Derrickman with Foraky Ltd, Boldon Drilling and KCA International both on land and offshore UK. With prospects for promotion and foreign postings dwindling by the mid 80’s, Grant joined Drilex Systems who promised both, and began the process of training in fishing tools and methods with subsidiary AZ International in Egypt’s Western Desert, US Gulf Coast and Angola (incidentally, this learning process continues today, 24 years after breaking out as a Fishing Supervisor!). In 1989 Grant was posted to Jakarta where he spent 4 years covering the Far East region before heading back to Aberdeen in 1993 to start a family. He worked the next 16 years as Fishing Supervisor for Red Baron Oil Tools (latterly Smith Services) primarily covering UK and Norwegian North Sea with secondments to Middle East and Colombia regions. In 2009 Grant set up his own consulting business, Adams Drilling Ltd, and continues to plan, supervise and manage fishing and remedial operations, primarily in West Africa.
Grant can draw on experience and knowledge gained over a wide spectrum of operating conditions in the following fields;
- Workover Fishing; packer milling and retrieval, tubing recovery, dual completions, gravel packs, screens, external patches
- Open Hole Fishing; pipe recovery, freepointing, blind and assisted back offs, washover operations, junk management
- Milling; casing, tubing, drill pipe, junk
- Abandonment; subsea well abandonment, platform slot recovery, section milling for zonal isolation
- Casing Exit; hydraulic, mechanical, permanent and retrievable whipstocks, multi lateral junction construction
