Dr Reginald C. Minton – Drilling Fluids & Waste Management

Dr Reginald C. MiltonDr Minton is a former SPE Distinguished Lecturer and member of the SPE Distinguished Lecturer Committee. He is the author of over 75 technical publications in the fields of drilling fluids, drilling performance, waste management, and environmental compliance. More recently he was on the organizing committee of the 2007 SPE Forum, held in Dubrovnik, and is a contributor to the SPE Monograph on Cuttings Re-injection, due to be published in 2009.

Dr Minton, (preferring to be known as “Reg”) graduated from Aberdeen University in 1976 with a Ph.D. in Marine Ecology and joined BP in Aberdeen, initially working offshore as Roughneck, Derrickman and then Mudman / Mud Engineer. He moved onshore as Senior Drilling Fluids Engineer and then, in 1982, moved to Anchor Drilling Fluids in Stavanger, Norway, as their Technical Manager.

Following two years in Norway, and a further year in Aberdeen as Anchor’s UK Operations Manager, he re-joined BP and between 1986 and 2001 held a number of Drilling Fluids, Technical, R&D and Drilling Operations posts in Aberdeen, London and Stavanger. In the period from 1990 to 1993, Reg was specifically responsible for developing BP’s strategy for Oily Cuttings cleaning, transportation and disposal. In this role he pioneered the use of Cuttings Re-Injection within the North Sea and the development of Thermal processes for oily waste processing.

In 2001, Reg joined MI Swaco as their Vice President for Waste Management Business Development. In this role he was accountable for the global development of M-I Swaco’s Waste Management business, focussed primarily on Solids Control and the Handling, Transportation and Treatment of E&P Oily Waste Streams.

2006 found Reg in a global business development role having joined Axiom Process Ltd, an independent manufacturer of the novel triple deck Axiom AX-1 shale shaker and the associated screening system. In 2008 he established Mosarric Services Ltd.

Dr Minton is currently the Managing Director of Mosarric Services Ltd, a UK Consultancy business focussed on Drilling Fluid Management, Solids Control Optimisation and Drilling Waste Management. Mosarric Services Ltd is also the International Distributor of the Mud Watcher instrumentation, designed for the continuous measurement of Drilling Fluid Density and Viscosity.
